Today, businesses are being asked to do more with less, while finding new ways to not only stay competitive, but also outpace the competition. Most often, these same businesses also find themselves armed with a plethora of data, that when leveraged with the right technology, can help achieve the mission at hand.

In this latest Data Science Central webinar, hear from two organizations that are coupling their data with artificial intelligence (AI) to power their business intelligence (BI) forecasts and dashboards. Meanwhile, Texas Mutual Insurance Company, the leading workers' compensation provider for its namesake state, works to meet the daily needs of more than 64,000 business owners and their 1.4 million workers. Despite being in very different industries and having two very different goals, these two leading organizations both realize that the combination of AI + BI can help them more effectively and efficiently achieve success.

Register for this webinar and learn:

Bamboozled by the analytics and BI Magic Quadrant? Four things to do by Cindi Howson via @infomgmt

In our summits this year, we sometimes asked how many of you have read the Magic Quadrant (MQ). A mere 20 percent raised their hands in one. I was gob smacked, and could not hide my dismay.

There is a link in the article which points to Cindi's historical blog explaining the 4 mistakes to read when looking at the MQ report.  To get a copy of it you will need to go through an organisation and sign up to something to access it (if you are not a Gartner member) - I would suggest looking on the internet via a search engine or I'll give you two examples here.  Sisense or Qlik

SLIDESHOW: 5 top trends driving analytics and BI strategy by David Weldon via @infomgmt

Gartner analysts share their predictions on the most important strategies influencing data science and business intelligence for the next five years.

Some very good points and I have to say I agree with all of them. I can definitely see all of them happening and that it will be fairly quick and painless.  The non-use of a Data Scientist is already a possibility with tools like Tableau making greater waves in the market.

Strong data security starts with proper documentation

Important considerations are what data is accessible, where it’s all stored, how it’s all connected and who has rights to view it.

I agree - any kind of reporting layer needs security within it , between the data and it or both.

WEBINAR: How data catalogs can drive real results with business intelligence and analytics - 26 April 2018

Web Seminar  How data catalogs can drive real results with business intelligence and analytics
Apr. 26, 2018 | 2 PM ET/11 AM PT
Hosted by Information Management
Across all industries, and in organizations large and small, everyone wants to do more with data.
More specifically, everyone wants to use data to get closer to customers, to create new efficiencies,
to drive smart business decisions, and to boost the bottom line. But that’s a tall order when
organizations continue to create and collect virtual mountains of information. The challenge is to
know which data has real value. But too often discussions about data and its value between
information technology professionals and business stakeholders turns overly technical.
Business users simply don’t understand what data they possess and where to find it.
This webinar will look at how data catalogs can ease that process and present data
assets in ways that everyone in the organization can understand and take advantage of.

Why AI Cannot Survive Without Big Data by Philip Piletic via @SmartDataCo

Data scientists are struggling to create structure out of the jumble of big data out there – structure that is essential for AI to function properly.

Yes AI needs lots of data, but it also needs to have some kind of known structure to that data as well as an understanding of the meaning of that data.

SLIDESHOW: 20 top platforms for analytics and business intelligence by David Weldon via @infomgmt

Tableau, Olik and Microsoft are among the leading vendors in the data analytics and BI space according to a new Gartner Magic Quadrant report.

I've used a few of these - it's an important thing to understand the differences between these tools - I know there are often company wide decision about the preferred tool, but sometimes it is worth investing in a different tool if it gives you a much better result for what you need to do.

GDPR: About to Lose Your BI and Analytics? How to Save Your Investment by Majken Sander via @TimeXtender

Are you facing the risk of losing the investment you’ve made in your BI and Analytics Program? The first examples of companies choosing to shut down parts of their BI and analytics solutions have started to surface.

Interesting. I guess if you were better organised and had a Data Protection Officer (or similar) it could not stop the use of your data.
