Oracle Wants Its Cloud to Grow Inside Your Data Centres by Wylie Wong via @datacenter

Taking a different approach to hybrid cloud than some of its biggest competitors, Oracle has substantially beefed up the capabilities of its on-premises cloud product called Oracle Cloud at Customer. It gives companies the ability to use its cloud services but have them run inside their own data centres.

I can't make up my mind whether this is a good idea or not. I don't like the thought that there is still a cost to you relating to hardware and if the main players in the cloud market have different approaches it messes up the ability to change vendor - hence the nightmare of vendor lock-in feels very real.

The Basics of Oracle Statistics

Databases uses statistics about data to determine the best way to query tables. Should the database seek or scan? How many rows will be returned from tables that are being joined? Oracle is no exception, but the way Oracle treats statistics is different from SQL Server.

Oracle's Customer 2 Cloud programme helps move HCM and CRM solutions customers move to full or part cloud solutions

With the recent announcement of the Oracle Customer 2 Cloud programme any organisation using any of the Siebel, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards, and Oracle E-Business Suite product lines can move all or part of their seats from on-premises to cloud.  This should enable organisations to save money on their IT costs for running these systems.  Oracle does of course offer cloud computing including software as a service (SaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), and infrastructure as a service (IaaS) although I'm not sure you should put all your eggs in one basket and be tied quite so completely to one company.
