Digital Transformation 3.0: Enter The IoT Blind Spot by Nadir Izrael via @forbes

Connected devices are everywhere -- in businesses, hospitals, manufacturing plants, power stations, aeroplanes and government buildings. The internet of things (IoT) is taking us through the biggest digital transformation the world has ever seen

The figure of 40% in this article for devices that can't be seen definitely shows that you cannot use IoT effectively in any organisation unless you do all of the infrastructure and basics so that it really is usable. I have visions of all these connected devices that can't be seen - what a catastrophic failure and huge waste of money.

"We're hiring engineers, quantitative pharmacologists, economists, mathematicians, and machine-learning experts. It's with diversity in mind—diversity not only in skill set but also in experience," says Sandy Allerheiligen, Merck VP of predictive and economic modelling. Interesting to focus on an area I am not familiar with to see how they are focusing.

Rescuing Retail’s Mobile Customer Experience Requires New Technology by Tony Compton via @infomgmt

For retail operators interested in the ability to quickly engage customers in the midst of any rapid change in local conditions or market dynamics, the overarching challenge has become threefold: securing a customer base that will opt in to mobile technology in advance of receiving real-time communications; employing talent that can creatively craft breakthrough notifications; and adopting a technology environment focused on making the most of opportunistic omnichannel customer experiences.

Interesting discussion.

4 Data in 2016 posts from @infomgmt

Here are 4 separate articles around Data in 2016 from +Information Management that I think combined give a good setting of the stage for this year:

Data in 2016: 5 Trends That Will Drive Big Data by Dave Weldon

Data in 2016: Big Data, Business Intelligence Still Top IT Concerns by Dave Weldon

Data in 2016: 6 Changes to Expect in Security, Cloud and Mobile Tech by Dave Weldon

Data in 2016: Top 10 CIO Concerns which is a Slideshow

I have to say I see more sensible big data implementations that give quick tangible benefits, instead of the huge projects we've seen in the past that have often failed to deliver anything apart from a massive spend, some training and skills for staff, and a few massaged egos.

WEBINAR: The Offline Challenge: Delivering Mobile Apps that Always Work - June 9, 2015

As more enterprises focus on driving great user experiences for their mobile apps, it’s becoming increasingly important to actually deliver on that user experience. While app design and ease of use are key factors in UX, even more important is the ability to deliver an application that works all the time, both online and offline.

Join Wayne Carter, Chief Architect of Mobile at Couchbase and Ali LeClerc, Mobile Product Marketing Manager as they discuss why offline app functionality is a crucial consideration for mobile applications and how NoSQL can help deliver mobile apps that always work.

Other topics include:

  • The business impacts of a mobile offline solution
  • Why an offline solution is often the most expensive (and valuable) piece of infrastructure mobile dev teams implement
  • How NoSQL can help remove the complexity and costs associated with building apps that work online and offline
